Hi there, my name is Rai Jordan and I am the founder of Global Rights Defenders. I have over 10 years of experience in the field of human rights issues and advocacy efforts. I created Global Rights Defenders as an opportunity to contribute to the conversation.

Global Rights Defenders is a non-profit dedicated to advocating alongside marginalized, displaced, and vulnerable populations.

Through podcast interviews, youtube videos, and articles, GRD aims to shed light on human rights issues worldwide.​

Vice President at the Canadian International Council
(2020 – 2022)
 • Lead Interviewer and Co-creator of a speaker series featuring prominent foreign affairs individuals
• Assist the chair in leading CIC YPN
• Maintain network work plan, provide input and feedback in network strategic planning and visioning
• Coordinate across CIC YPN executive portfolios, act as secondary focal point of leadership when network chair is unable or unavailable to carry out duties.

• Provide training and problem solving to local groups and members
• Encourage local leadership and maintain regular contact and communication
• Be a catalyst/resource for information and main materials specific to Amnesty issues and campaigns
• Connect other human rights activist and social justice groups at the local and national levels
• Be a public face of Amnesty through media interviews, public speaking, and maintaining contacts with community officials and leaders
• Chair, create educational campaign; provide training on Human Rights Defenders campaign in Saudi Arabia

Policy and Research Development Analyst at AMSSA
(2020 – 2021)

• Lead in the research and writing of policy background documents and position papers for internal and external purposes.
• Research, understand and organize solutions to and supports for the current and evolving needs of the settlement and integration sector.
• Leads in curating and organizing of weekly Settlement Net content.
• Leads with creating and writing the content for Migration Matters Info Sheets.
• Consult with the Settlement and Integration Program Manager to develop, facilitate and support meetings, workshops, events, and resources that support the Settlement and Integration sector.
• Leads in the creation of evaluation reports and analysis of evaluations for settlement and integration support events and activities.
• Liaise with LIP Advisory Committee members to inform of the needs, realities of Local Immigration Partnerships.
• Coordinates and supports the logistics of the meetings, Advisory Committee meetings, workshops, and other AMSSA events (webinars, talks and conferences).
• Write and prepare work plans, agendas, production schedules, evaluation surveys, reports, slide presentations and other documents to be used for meetings, events and resources.

Policy Consultant for the Rajiv Gandhi Institute for Contemporary Studies

(2019 – 2020)

• Developed and implemented a research-based project and policy recommendations for key policy themes and issues in advocating for water harvesting structures in Rajasthan, India

• Advocated for agriculturalists/ farmers access to water harvesting structures in Rajasthan, India

• Support humanitarian initiatives focused on gender equality

• Lead/created research design on women socio-economic development/empowerment through interviews and discussions with women in rural villages

• Analyzed Rajasthan’s agricultural economy in relation to weather trends spanning 10 years to determine themes

Junior Program Coordinator at Global Affairs Canada

(2019 – 2019)

• Lead analysis of Public Service Employee Survey results for strategic division within GAC: o Statistical analysis of large amounts of complex data using a gap analysis approach to identify key themes o Presented data, key results and recommendations to Assistant Deputy Minister 

• Lead implementation a Human Resources Strategy to address Harassment and Discrimination:  o Identified organized mixed media and online resources to GAC managers/employers                          o Developed tools, posters, email series to educate staff regarding official definitions, confidential support and processes for reporting

• Lead on the editing and preparation Feminist International Assistance Policy (FIAP) success stories from Canadian missions abroad as it pertained to Eastern Europe, Middle East, and North Africa  o Communicated, coordinated and edited content with Project managers and missions abroad

• Supported International Development projects funded and managed by GAC senior officers.

Research Assistant at the University of British Columbia

(2018 – 2019)

Sept 2018-August 2019
• Researched the resettlement of Syrian refugees in Metro Vancouver; created policy content; secondary research methods
• Performed qualitative research through interviews and group discussions with Syrian refugees at community centers
• Compiled and analyzed original dataset for provincial and national Syrian migrants spanning 20 years

Sept 2019-Nov 2019
• Assisted in securing $50,000 SSHRC Partnership Development “Belonging on Unceded Territories”
• Coordinated between relevant stakeholders across multidisciplinary fields throughout Metro-Vancouver
• Wrote/ assisted in application process, biographies of participants, reformatted dictated notes, analyzed resumes, filled out applications- performed administrative tasks
